Agua de platano served in glass mason jars with a festive Mexican straw and ripe bananas beside it.

Agua de plátano is a delicious creamy Mexican drink that turns ripe bananas from bland to grand. Take a simple overripe banana and blend it with milk, a pinch of cinnamon and just a hint of sweetness and you end up with something that’s not only refreshing but so delicious. It’s perfect for sipping on a warm afternoon, or as a sweet little treat to go with any meal. With just two ripe bananas and a few simple ingredients you too can make this refreshing drink at home! And if you’re a fan of fruit-based aguas frescas like this one, you’re also going to love my agua de fresa, it’s got the same vibe going on but with sweet strawberries.

    Serving Suggestions

Agua de plátano is delicious on its own especially on a hot summer day. You can also pair it with other Mexican dishes like carnitas, camarones a la cucaracha and quesadillas rellenas.

    Storing

To store, transfer from the blender to another container and refrigerate for up to 2 days. Any longer and the agua will slowl start to spoil.

    Cathy’s Expert Tips

Use ripe bananas: For the best flavor and sweetness, use ripe bananas that already have a few black spots on the skin.

Blend well: Blend everything really well in the blender, you do not want banana pieces in the drink. Blend until completely smooth and creamy.

Adjust sweetness: After you have blended everything together, taste for sweetness, you can always add sugar if you would like it sweeter.

Serve cold: For the best refreshing taste, serving the agua fresca over ice or allow the drink to get cold in the refrigerator.
