What are Chipotle Peppers in Adobo Sauce?

If you have never used chipotle peppers in adobo sauce in your cooking, you are certainly missing out on many delicious dishes you could be making in the comfort of your home!

These peppers are highly and prominitely used in Mexican, Tex-Mex and Southwestern dishes.

So what are chipotle peppers in adobo sauce?

    Well the quick explanation is….

Chipotle Peppers in Adobo Sauce– are ripened jalapeños that have been dried and smoked for a period of time and then stewed with tomatoes, onion, garlic and spices, making the “adobo sauce.”

The earthiness of these peppers adds a delicious flavor to many popular Mexican dishes; Tacos de Tinga, Albondigas al Chipotle (Mexican Chipotle Meatballs).

Because of their popularity, they can easily be found in the Mexican section of your supermarket, Hispanic market or even purchased online.

So make sure to keep a can or two of chipotle peppers in adobo sauce in your pantry.

Note: A can of Chipotle peppers in adobo sauce goes a long way.  Meaning you usually only need very little from one can for a particular recipe but can then save the rest in the refrigerator and it will last for weeks.
