Tomatillo Pico de Gallo is a refreshing salsa that is slightly tart, slightly tangy and perfect simply with tortilla chips but excellent as a topping! Top on everything from fish, shrimp tacos to quesadillas and tostadas.

Pico de Gallo served in a clear bowl.

If you have followed the blog for a while now and followed primarily all the Mexican recipes we post, then by now surely you have come across one of our many recipes using tomatillos.

And this delicious raw Tomatillo Pico de Gallo otherwise known as Green Pico de Gallo is just another one added to the list!

Tomatillos are just a spectacular addition to Mexican Cuisine! Without them, we would be missing on some fabulous Mexican dishes!

For example, without tomatillos we would not have Salsa Verde (Green Sauce) for our tacos, tostadas, empanadas, quesadillas or chilaquiles!!

Tomatillos are just a delicious addition to so many dishes!  Once you’ve had them in a dish, its hard to imagine not having them again!

So if this is your first time coming across tomatillos, pay attention and you may even want to bookmark and Pin this recipe!

After all, it’s not all the time you come across a Tomatillo Pico de Gallo!

Pico de Gallo served in a clear bowl.

This recipe is super simple and perfect for tostadas, quesadillas, tacos, eggs, tortilla chips and so much more.

This salsa sort of reminds me of hot dog relish. Note: I do not mean in flavor as I do mean in texture and consistency. Kind of like chow chow! Hence, you can call it Mexican Relish or if you like, you can even call it Mexican Chow Chow!

    Ready for the ingredients?

    Here we go! Hyper simple!

    Ingredients

    • 4 tomatillos
    • ½ onion
    • 1-2 serrano or jalapeño pepper (depending how much heat you like)
    • 2 scallions
    • 2 garlic cloves
    • handful of  fresh cilantro
    • 2- 3 tablespoons fresh lime juice
    • ¼ teaspoon salt and pepper to taste
