Tilapia Ceviche Tostadas make the perfect appetizer, lunch or meal.  Not just super simple to make but hyper delicious!  Made with tender tilapia pieces cooked and marinated in fresh lime and lemon juice and combined with red onions, jalapenos, tomatoes, yellow peppers, cilantro, garlic and topped on a bed of creamy avocado and a crispy tostada.

Ceviche, one of my most favorite foods by far!  There will never be a time that I will say no to ceviche!  And these Tilapia Ceviche Tostadas are no exception!

These are excellent!  Refreshing and hyper tasty!!

I love ceviche so much that I have made it a point to make quite a few ceviche recipes to share with you all right here on the blog.

From seafood to vegetarian ceviche dishes, I have quite a few here because I just can’t get enough!!

Tilapia Ceviche Tostadas served on a white platter.

The tilapia ceviche is combined with red onions, jalapenos, tomatoes, yellow peppers, cilantro, garlic and cooked in fresh lime and lemon juice.

The acidity from the limes and lemons “cook” the tilapia pieces to perfect tenderness.

Can I Use Frozen Fish for Ceviche?

Yes you can use frozen tilapia for this dish.

How Long Does Fish Have to Cook in Lime Juice?

I like to cook the tilapia in lime and lemon juice for at least two hours.  Sometimes if I can contain myself to wait a bit longer, I will allow the tilapia to marinate overnight with the red onions, jalapeños, tomatoes, yellow peppers, and garlic and will add the cilantro at the last minute before preparing the tostadas.

How to Make Tilapia Ceviche Tostadas

    • Begin with chopping up the red onions, jalapenos, tomatoes, yellow peppers, and garlic.  Set aside.
    • Cut up tilapia into small cubes, about ½ inch cubes.
    • Combine tilapia and all veggies except tomatoes and cilantro into a bowl.
    • Add the juice of 3 limes and 2 lemons to bowl.  Mix together well.  Refrigerate for 2 hours.

    • Smash avocados with a fork.  Add a teaspoon of lime juice to avocado (this will prevent avocado from turning an ugly brown color.  Add salt and pepper to taste. Mix well.
    • Fry corn tortillas and drain on paper towels or use store bought tostadas.
    • Remove bowl from refrigerator and add the tomatoes and cilantro.  Add salt to taste, mix well.

Now you are ready to assemble tostadas..

    • Spread three tablespoons of avocado spread on top of crispy tostada and add tilapia ceviche on top.
    • Garnish with jalapeño slivers (if you like).  Done!  Enjoy!

    Ingredients

    • 1 pound tilapia cut into small cubes
    • ½ red onion chopped or thinly sliced
    • 1 jalapeno finely chopped
    • ½ yellow, red pepper chopped
    • 2 garlic cloves finely chopped
    • 4 limes juiced
    • 2 lemons juiced
    • 2 roma tomatoes chopped
    • 3-4 tablespoon fresh cilantro chopped
    • 3-4 haas avocados pitted and pulp removed
    • 8 corn tortillas (or store bought tostadas)
    • oil
    • salt and pepper to taste

    Instructions

    Tilapia Ceviche

    • Combine tilapia and all veggies except tomatoes and cilantro into a bowl.
    • Add the juice of 3 limes and 2 lemons to bowl. Mix together well. Refrigerate for 2 hours.
    • Smash avocados with a fork. Add a teaspoon of lime juice to avocado (this will prevent avocado from turning an ugly brown color. Add salt and pepper to taste. Mix well.

Corn Tortillas and Assembly of Tostadas
